Birthday Celebrations Take 2: Vancouver Aquarium
It's become a tradition to take the kids to a special place of their choosing for their birthday, except when they're too young to choose and I just do it for them! The past couple years we've gone to the Vancouver Aquarium for Jaxon's birthday, he decided he wanted to go to Science World instead this year so we went to the aquarium as a special treat for Hudson's birthday.
We headed out nice and early hoping to avoid too much craziness on a Saturday and it was a great success. We arrived at 9:30 when they opened and there was hardly anyone else there, it was great!
By the time we left 4 hours later, it was a zoo... SO hectic and crowded!
Anyways, here's some pictures of our aquarium adventure!

Hudson is 2!!!
Already a couple weeks behind I thought it was about time I add Hudson's birthday post. Still needing a few pictures from my mom of cake time (I always seem to miss that!)
Birthdays are kind of a big deal around here, I just love everything about them and especially as I reflect back to the day when my children were born and how amazing it really is!
2 years ago my sweet Hudsy baby came in to the world at 10 am on March 14 weighing 8lbs 12 oz. How time has flown by so fast I will never understand, but what a happy, sweet, funny, loveable boy he is. (It's also fun to remember how crazy our life was just after Hudson was born, moving in with my parents when he was just 10 days old and living there for 2 months...)
2 is such a fabulous age, and I can't wait to enjoy this year and all that it has to offer!
Hudson started his day a little early, he must have known it was his birthday! Jaxon had turned on cartoons for him and they were sitting watching together. I let Hudson open one special present as I was so excited to give it to him... a crocheted giraffe that I had made! and he LOVES it, which makes it even more special.
We had a lazy morning at home, watching cartoons and having cuddles.
We then went to Frosting's cupcakery in Langley for a special birthday treat, each of the kids picked out their own cupcake (cupcakes for lunch is ok when it's your birthday right?)
After dropping Jaxon off at preschool I was hoping Alivia and Hudson would nap so I could get all the food prepped for Hudson's party... of course that didn't happen but they went and played outside together for over an hour! What a blessing, the relationship between Alivia and Hudson has been a fun one to watch recently as they have turned into best buds!

The party guests (as Jaxon kept calling them) arrived for dinner and we had a fun evening- eating, playing, and celebrating the birthday boy! Grandma & Grandpa, Oma & Opa and Uncle Andy and Mya.
Spoiled with new toys as always, he was a pretty happy guy! After opening his first gift- a new Lightning Mcqueen and Mater he wanted to run off and play with them and we had to drag him back to the rest of the gifts. He definitely found a favourite!
We finished the night off with some cake, Hudson was making his way to the table where he knew the cake was but I had grabbed it to bring it to him and Jordan on the couch. He was in tears that Daddy was holding him on the couch, and didn't stop crying until he got to blow the candle out. After a little hesitation and a lesson from Daddy he blew the second one out himself!
SO thankful for this little munchkin!

Baby Dykman #4 : Weeks 9-13
Week 9
At week's end, your fetus measures approximately 0.9 inches / 2.3 centimetres long. In both shape and size, it resembles a peapod and weighs less than a tenth of an ounce / 2 grams. The eyelids are fused and won't open until week 27. The wrists are more developed, ankles have formed, and the fingers and toes are clearly visible. Arms are growing longer and bend at the elbows. By week's end, the inner workings of the ears are complete. (taken from babycenter.ca)
Not much to report this week, just going through the same feelings, motions and emotions as the previous weeks. The kids are already getting super excited about baby though, always rubbing my belly and asking how big it is now. Alivia asked if she could give the baby a kiss and preceded to kiss my belly- it's so sweet to see a sibling relationship forming before we even know who this baby will be! Here's my belly at 9 weeks, nothing much there yet but excited for this baby to grow. (I do always love a pregnant belly).
Thankful this week that the nausea has subsided slightly, hoping this is a sign that come the second trimester is will be much better. Having sciatic pain more this week and feeling aches and pains throughout the day. Otherwise, nothing out of the ordinary has been happening but the weeks have been flying by.
I had started this baby blanket months ago, with the intention to sell it once finished. I got so busy with orders that this fell to the bottom of the pile and I just dug it out a few weeks ago. I loved the colours and design so much I decided to finish it for this baby (if it's a girl), so now I am also starting one in blues and the same pattern (if baby is a boy)! I made a matching headband of course, with the intention to take a photo of baby on the blanket.

Measuring from the crown of his head to his rump, your 1.5-inch/ 4-centimetre fetus has all his parts, from tooth buds to toenails. Your baby is busy kicking and stretching; his movements are so fluid they look like water ballet. Fingers and toes have fully separated. Now the fetus's main task during the next six months will be to grow larger and stronger until it can survive on its own outside the womb. (taken from baby center)
Just when I thought the 'morning sickness' was on it's way out this week has been the worst one yet. Too sick to feel like eating, but then I do eat and feel better for about 10 minutes and then feel worse than before, it's a rough cycle- but it's only for a time. Had some tests done this week as well (blood tests and such, not even sure what they check, iron levels and something else...) so my wonderful mom had the kids for the morning so I could get that done.
This week I've been craving pickles and cheese with crackers, twizzlers and chocolate milk.
I also shared my pregnancy news on my business page on facebook, and just had to use this image and it just makes me chuckle...
Week 12
Your baby's face is changing. The eyes, which started out on the sides of his head, have moved closer together and his ears are almost in their normal position. This is when the tissues and organs that have already formed in his body rapidly grow and mature. Your baby's intestines, which start out as a large swelling in the umbilical cord, will begin moving into the abdominal cavity about now.
I am already 12 weeks, how exciting to say this! But how fast this pregnancy has already flown by. Another appointment at the midwives this week, I was so excited knowing we would most likely be able to hear baby's heartbeat for the first time. I of course had the kids with me so I was even more excited for them to hear too. They talk about this baby all the time, asking how big it is and what it looks like. Talking about the vitamins I take and that they're for baby to grow big, Jaxon loves looking at his baby book I made and seeing himself when he was first born and asking so many questions.
I got to meet with one of the midwives who delivered Hudson at home and that was super exciting, I always feel a closer connection to my midwives who have previously delivered one of my babies.
All my tests came back normal/ positive/ great (whatever they were supposed to be), and we did get to hear that sweet sound of babies heart beat, 160 beats per minute at this point!

The fetus is now nearly 3 inches / 7 to 8 centimetres long from crown to rump and weighs nearly an ounce / 23 grams -- about the size of a pea pod. Its unique fingerprints are already in place. And when you poke your stomach gently and she feels it, your baby will start rooting -- that is, act as if she's searching for a nipple.
The nausea seems to have subsided again, most days have been great but then I'll randomly be struck down with feeling insanely sick to my stomach or getting really bad headaches. This week was a busy one getting ready for Hudson's birthday, babysitting a few days and just living this life! Still eagerly anticipating those first kicks, I have usually felt it around 12 weeks with all my other pregnancies but I figure I'm not still for much of the day so I probably just haven't noticed it yet. It is one of my favourite things about pregnancy and I can't wait for that to start (until the baby gets so big and I get a constant pain in my ribs haha). The belly has started to pop!

The fetus is only about 1.2 inches / 3 centimetres long from crown to rump and weighs less than a sixth of an ounce / 4 grams. Even so, it's busily swallowing and kicking. Each day more minute details start to appear, such as fingernails and peach-fuzzy hair.
The vital organs -- the liver, kidneys, intestines, brain, and lungs -- are fully formed and functional, while the head is almost half the length of the entire body. So much SNOW!!
It's already been a few weeks now since we had our big snowfall, but better late than never- so here's some of our family fun we had in the beautiful snow!
