Baby Dykman #4: Weeks 24-28

Week 24

Your fetus weighs more than 1.3 pounds/ 600 grams. Though she still has little body fat and her skin is thin and fragile, she's now well-proportioned. Her brain is growing rapidly, and she is starting to fill the space in your uterus. From crown to heel she could measure 11.8 inches / 30 centimetres

Well here I am already 24 weeks along, this week brought some new but familiar pregnancy symptoms. I was having a few days of being really sore in my hips and pelvis, feeling lots of sciatic pain as well. It only lasted 3 or 4 days thankfully and has eased up again but it was super painful to stand let alone walk and lying down was much worse than sitting! I just couldn't quite believe how early I was feeling these pains as I remember having them with Hudson but it was definitely not until the last 6 weeks or so!

Week 25

The baby now weighs nearly 1.5 pounds / 660 grams and is approximately 13.5 inches/ 35 centimetres long from crown to heel. He makes breathing movements but has no air in his lungs yet. Fetal brain scans show response to touch. If you shine a light on your abdomen, your baby will turn his head, which according to researchers, means his optic nerve is working.

On the go every day this week I don't get much time to remember I'm pregnant, except that I'm sore and uncomfortable most of the day and by the time the evening comes I'm just exhausted.
I've had some better sleeps this week, and not as much pain as last week so I am incredibly thankful for that. Having a bit of nausea again and can't quite pin down what it could be from.

Week 26

Your baby may measure about 36cm/15in long with feet extended. If you could see your baby now, you might be able to get a glimpse of his baby blue (or brown, green, hazel) eyes, which are now beginning to open. Response to sound grows more consistent toward the end of the seventh month, when the nerve pathways to the ears are complete.

Not much to report this week, feeling baby move lots, having the usual aches and pains and restless nights. Got my first leg cramp this week- I forgot how excruciating it was, woke up screaming because it hurts so much.

Week 27

Now that you're approaching the final stage of pregnancy -- your third trimester -- your baby is really starting to grow and fill the available space in your uterus. She can now open and close her eyes, sleeps and wakes at regular intervals, and may suck a finger or thumb. Although they're still immature, your baby's lungs will function with some medical help, if she's born prematurely.

This week I had more blood work done, it would also be the time to get the gestational diabetes test done and drink that horrid sugar drink and wait around for 2 hours. Thankfully I have awesome midwives and also have no risk factors for gestational diabetes so my midwife gave me the option to do it or not! Of course I opted not to, instead I had to fast for 10 hours and get blood work taken after that. I was so thankful!
Also went to see the midwife at the end of the week, and got to hear baby again! The heart rate was 128 which is the lowest it's been yet. The results were back from my blood work and everything was fine except my iron levels- which were really low. Now I just have to take an iron supplement and try and keep them from getting any lower.

Week 28

By this week, your baby weighs nearly 2.3 pounds/ a little over 1 kilograms and may measure 14.8 inches/ 38 centimetres from top to toe. At about this time, your baby can open his eyes and turn his head in utero if he notices a continuous, bright light shining from the outside. His fat layers are forming and his fingernails appear.

Here we are already in the third trimester!
Getting more excited to meet this baby everyday, I love thinking about who this baby will be and how he or she will fit into our family. The kids are getting so excited too, especially now that our friends had their new baby, and they all want to hold him whenever we get together!
Craving any cold, iced, slushie drinks these past weeks now thats its been getting hot out- and treating myself at least once a week!

The Start of SUMMER!

With preschool officially being over, and almost all of our activities finished up for the summer we are looking forward to lots of time spent outdoors, relaxing, hanging out with friends and just enjoying life!

Our weekend was spent outside enjoying the sun, cooling off in the pool and of course having a fire and s'mores- a family favourite!

Our week was off to a pretty fantastic start as our friends invited us over to release the butterflies they had raised from caterpillars. There were 17 kids in total and I just couldn't believe how well they all managed (for the most part) to get a long! The butterflies were a definite highlight, but so was baby Jesse- Alivia and Hudson just love him!

Yet another trip to the zoo...

Mya spent the afternoon at our house on Wednesday and had a sleep over...

On Thursday we headed to the water park with our friends.

Lots of work being done in the yard taking junk and metal away, of course the kids are always out seeing what Daddy is up to so I tag along and keep an eye on them.

Jaxon's Preschool Graduation

Jaxon had his preschool graduation on Friday evening and unfortunately the evening didn't go the best. I put too much pressure on special events and on how I think they will turn out, that it is a recipe for disaster! Before we left I wanted to get a few photos of the kids together, of course in my mind things always go smoothly with 3 kids who are 3 years apart but reality is they don't always want to cooperate. Being pregnant my emotions don't always cooperate with me either and I was more than a bit upset. We did get a great photo of the family before things turned sour, amazing how we can look so picture perfect when the reality was far from perfect.

At the ceremony Jaxon and the kids from preschool all sang some songs they have been practicing and it was so great. Jaxon was his usual bouncy, bubbly, energetic self and was so entertaining! His siblings attention span didn't last too long before they were out of their seats and Jordan was chasing them around, which was another source of frustration. Jaxon got a certificate and his binder full of worksheets and activities from throughout the year, such a great keepsake!

After the ceremony was over there was cake and refreshments to enjoy. We tried to get some pictures with the graduating boy again but he was a bit overwhelmed I think and was in a very silly mood and wanted no part of any pictures.

Oma and Opa and Grandma all came out for the event, it was a great way to end the year and can't believe my baby boy starts kindergarten in just a few months!
