A Week at Home

Hard to believe another week is almost gone by again!
We didn't get out this week as Jordan is still trying to get the van fixed, so we had a low key week but it was a nice little break. Spent an evening out in the workshop keeping Daddy company and spending time together.

The kids and I made our own ice cream, this was an activity I had done when I worked in the daycare and remembered how much the kids loved it so I tried it with my 2! We also sing a fun song which makes it even better, here's the directions.
Take 2 (or 3 or 4 sandwich size ziploc bags depending on how many servings you need)
put 1/2 cup milk, 1 tsp. sugar, 1 tsp. chocolate syrup or vanilla flavour in each bag and seal
Place all bags into a large freezer ziploc bag fill with ice and 3/4 cup salt (since salt lowers the freezing point of ice) and seal, then roll in newspaper and tape up your giant 'tootsie roll' (we used construction paper since we don't get a newspaper). Then shake vigorously for 6-8 minutes. To add to the fun we sing this song while shaking it:

Shake it like a milkshake 

and pass it to a friend

Jaxon and I also made a tin foil river one afternoon while the younger 2 slept, shaping the tin foil in a u shape and putting it on a hill then running water from the hose at the top. He had fun floating leaves and flowers down as well as some toy boats, he also tried rocks and realized pretty quickly they were too heavy!

We also planted some raspberry bushes with Grandma's help this week, we got them last year from my Grandpa's property when he passed away and the house was sold. They've been in pots over the past year and we finally got them planted this week in our garden area, excited to add all kinds of plants and vegetables to this area next year! There were lots of snails and worms and beetles once we started digging, the kids loved it and Jaxon let the snails slide all over his arm.

 Hudson rolled over for the first time a few days ago from his tummy to his back, just today he rolled over from his back to his tummy! This boy is going to be mobile way too soon then I'll be in trouble.
He also sucks his thumb now, and puts himself to sleep like a dream.

We had big plans for this weekend as Jordan has taken some holidays and has the next 5 days off, but we'll see how much we actually are able to do as he injured he knee in hockey last night and can hardly walk today. He went to the doctor and was told he has a medial collateral ligament strain, he was so bummed as hockey playoffs are in just a couple days and he won't be able to play.

4 months old!

Hudson is 4 months old, (already a week ago) and I decided I wanted to try and do a post every month with a picture of each of my babies at that age. I did it at 3 months here.

Jaxon at 4 month old was 17lbs. 13 oz. and 26 in. long

Alivia at 4 months old was 14 lbs. and 25 in. long

Hudson at 4 months old is 19 lbs. and 26 in. long

Experiments, Activities and Expereinces

We tried our lava lamp again using a small empty water bottle and it worked much better. Filling it 3/4 full with oil and about an inch of water, adding 10 drops of food colouring and then little pieces of an alka seltzer tablet. It was lots of fun to watch the bubbles go up and down.

We also tried Magic Milk, I can't remember what it was actually called but i think the name fits. We poured some milk into a shallow plastic comtainer (just enough to cover the bottom as milk is too expesive to waste alot) we added different food colours then used a toothpick to drag the colour through and blend with each other. This part was fun and the colours looked neat swirling together, the second thing we did though was by far my favourite and Jaxon's too! Using the same dish put some dishsoap on the end of a q-tip and just touch the surface of the milk- don't swirl lie the toothpick. It has a cool reaction and the colour disperses quickly from the end of the q-tip, it's hard to explain but looks very cool so just try it!

I made new playdough this week, it's the perfect activity if I need some down time or a great activity to pull out so I can prepare dinner almost uninterrupted. The kids play with it for hours at a time and I added glitter to it for extra fun!

We also made slime this week, the kids loved stretching it out and squishing it between their fingers. It wasn't the best for Alivia as she just wanted to eat it but it has Borax in it and that is not something you want to eat, so after one go of it I just threw it away, it was fun while it lasted though!

We've been having a rough go of things this week with too many injuries. Poor Alivia is somewhat clumsy- mostly because of her age, but she took a mighty tumble off a kitchen chair when her and Jaxon were helping me bake on Monday. My back was turned at the time so I don't know if she was pushed or just fell- both are very plausible, she ended up with a nose bleed, an instantly swollen and cut lip and I think she bit her tongue. She's a trooper though and after sucking on an ice cube was fine. The next day though while having her bottle (while walking around) she tripped and her sore wounded mouth again started bleeding as her bottled jammed into her face! That same day Jaxon hit her across the forehead with a wooden train track because she took some toy, again a nice goose egg and bruise.
A few days ago while I was making lunch (again with my back turned) I heard a huge thud and instantly Hudson screaming- he was in his swing (where I normally put him while I need my hands free) and Alivia had pushed the swing too hard and he toppled out- I know this is how it happened because it has almost occurred a few times again. He was screaming and she started crying, he calmed down quite quickly but definitely a scary moment! She also fell down the stairs outside trying to walk down them, she went head over heel a couple times and got another cut/ bruise or her forehead. Hoping things calm down a little and she can stay injury free for at least a day!

Hudson went in his excersaucer for the first time this week, he seems to love it in there as he can see the kids playing and watch what everyone's doing.

More sunny weather, more pool time fun!

Opa dropped off this load of gravel last week for the driveway and it
has become the kids new favourite place to play

While outside the other day Daddy found a frog on the pathfinder, it was very exciting as this was the kids first encounter. We all took turns holding it- even Alivia, Jaxon wanted to let it swim in the pool we then put it in a bucket and took it to the pond.
